Located in Hennepin County, Minnetrista is home to more than 6,400 residents. The city’s name is said to be a combination of two Dakota First People words, with minne meaning water, and trista meaning crooked. Founded in 1860, the city began with just over 200 residents and quickly became known as an agricultural community.
Minnetrista has experienced consistent growth throughout its history. As with many smaller cities in the post World War II era, the population between 1940 and 1950 almost doubled. With any types of agricultural jobs available, the area has remained relatively stable in terms of economy.
